I joined the Drama Department my freshman year, in the student-directed one-acts playing the role of Sonny in Sonny With a Chance. I instantly fell in love with the department and performing. Following one-acts I’ve performed in every show we’ve done since, including joining improv troupe my freshman year, and becoming Improv Troupe captain alongside Costume Crew Chief! I’ve been in a total of 11 productions at Garner, with my favorite being Aida, the musical, in my sophomore year. My favorite role to play has been Fenris Ulf in The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. The role challenged me so well in terms of my physicality and voice, and let me truly explore my range as an actor. The biggest thing I’ve learned from being in this department is how to be a true leader. Through both my work as Costume Crew Chief but also as a senior in the department, I’ve learned that the most important part of leadership is connection, and I’m so lucky to get to leave next month with such meaningful connections with everyone.
If I had to describe my drama experience at GHMS in just three words:
Creative, Emotional, Challenging.
A favorite memory of mine would be the couple of minutes onstage before the start of a final show. The mix of emotions and adrenaline is a feeling you’d only understand if you’ve experienced it before.
My plans after High School
I plan to attend UNCG (unless I get off the NC State waitlist 🙏🐺) and major in Fashion Design!
