I joined the department in the spring of my freshman year. By the end of this year, I will have been in ten productions, including one acts. I have acted in most of the productions while I have been on either set, publicity, or lights crew for all of them. My favorite production was The Play That Goes Wrong. In 2023, Drama Club took a trip to New York, and we saw The Play That Goes Wrong Off-Broadway. It was such a unique experience to see the play professionally done and then get to put it on ourselves. Along with that, the technical elements of the show were extremely complex, and I enjoyed getting to work through the challenges that arose during construction. The complexity of the set never ceases to amaze me. In addition, playing Annie was such a blast. Getting to pick people from the crowd to hold the mantlepiece and running out on stage with smeared lipstick will always be my favorite parts of the show. My favorite reason, however, was the audience reception of the show. Hearing people highly regard the show throughout the school made me so proud that I was a part of something so incredible.
If I had to describe my drama experience at GHMS in just three words:
Most influential experience!
The GMHS drama department changed my life. When I first joined, I was not sure if I would find a place. However, the people in the department welcomed me with open arms, and all my previous worries melted away. As my love for the department grew, so did my responsibilities. Soon, there was no place I would rather be than the auditorium. My favorite part of the day was getting to walk into the auditorium and start rehearsals. The people in the department have become like a second family, and I am always so honored that I get to work with them every day.
My plans after High School
I hope to attend Meredith College to study theatre education. My goal is to become a mini Hazelrigg and teach high school theatre.
